Chapter 8

“Kip’s taken a whole week of leave?” Killian asked Mrs. Lee, the no-nonsense and severe-looking secretary his brother brought all the way from his South East Asian main office.

The forty-something gray-haired woman didn’t even look at him but continued typing on her computer. Killian’s wolf was slightly annoyed at her attitude, because Killian was used to his orders being obeyed and his questions automatically answered. After that meeting with Mr. Rogers days ago, Killian thought he had this in the bag, that he’d be CEO within a year. Learning Kip took his entire core staff with him and set up shop in one corner of the main offices didn’t help his mood.

Smart, but then again, Kip was always cunning.

Learning his brother took an entire week off also bothered him a great deal, because Kip never took holidays or leaves for that matter. Kip usually flew straight as an arrow, was so predictable that it had gotten to the point Killian was bored screwing around with him. Kip should really just let him be the CEO, because hell. What would it show the rest of the world that a powerful company like Bridges Industries had an Omega shifter at its head?

They’d be the laughing stock of the corporate world.

“Where is he now?” he asked Mrs. Lee.

“I’m afraid that’s confidential information, Mr. Bridges,” Mrs. Lee replied in that same curt tone that implied Killian was bothering her.

He would have snapped if not for the reminder that Mrs. Lee belonged to a powerful coven of witches in Asia, definitely a group Killian didn’t want to cross. Oh, his brother was certainly smart, employing a witch to be his personal secretary. Killian had someone research the members of Kip’s staff, and all of them were loyal to Kip. What would warrant that kind of loyalty, he’d never know.

“Did he go on a holiday?” he asked.

“Killian, why are you bothering Kip’s secretary?” came the familiar voice of Mr. Rogers.

Damn that old lawyer. Killian thought Mr. Rogers would be on his side, but it seemed more likely Mr. Rogers wanted it to be a fair race. Abandoning Mrs. Lee, he walked alongside the lawyer.

“You heard? My brother’s on vacation. Can you believe that? Right after moving here, no less. What kind of image does that portray?”

“Well, Kip’s certainly entitled to it. He hasn’t had a holiday in ages,” Mr. Rogers said.

Killian snorted. He knew that, too, because his brother had no social life. Maybe Mr. Rogers would be easier to butter up and get to confess. Killian had a feeling the old lawyer knew what his conniving brother was up to.
